Everyday Life

In a significant step towards enhancing academic and cultural ties, a Kazakh scientific delegation led by Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education, Darkhan Ahmed-Zaki, was received at the Vatican. The delegation met with officials from the Vatican Apostolic Archives and the Vatican Apostolic Library, marking a milestone in the implementation of partnership agreements signed in 2022.

Access to Historical Manuscripts

The visit underscores Kazakhstan’s commitment to exploring its rich Turkic heritage. Vice-Minister Ahmed-Zaki emphasized the importance of studying valuable manuscripts housed in the Vatican’s collections, which can shed light on the historical connections between the East and West. This initiative aligns with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s efforts to provide Kazakh scholars access to ancient documents preserved in the Vatican.

Promoting Intercultural Dialogue

Ambassador Kairat Sarzhanov expressed gratitude to the Vatican leadership for facilitating this collaboration, highlighting the potential for these projects to foster deeper intercultural dialogue between Kazakhstan and the Holy See. The partnership offers Kazakh researchers the opportunity to access rare manuscripts, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the Turkic world and Kazakhstan’s history.

Symbolic Exchange

At the conclusion of the meeting, Professor Duken Masimhanuly, Director General of the R.B. Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies, presented the Vatican representatives with a symbolic gift from Kazakhstan. This gesture reflects the mutual respect and shared commitment to academic cooperation between the two parties.
