Kazakhstan to Host Branch of India's National Forensic Sciences University
Kazakhstan and India have signed an agreement to open a branch of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Astana — marking a landmark development for the Central Asian academic landscape. The NFSU, headquartered in Gandhinagar, India, is a world leader in forensic science education, and its Astana branch will be the first of its kind in the region.
How the Agreement Came About
The announcement emerged from a high-level trilateral meeting held at Kazakhstan's Academy of Management under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The meeting brought together three key figures:
- Sayasat Nurbek — Kazakhstan's Minister of Science and Higher Education
- Aidar Saitbekov — Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs
- Shree Jadeja — Executive Registrar of the National Forensic Sciences University
What the Branch Will Offer
The Astana branch will operate jointly with NFSU's main campus in India, offering dual-degree programs with a focus on:
- Digital Forensics — investigating cybercrimes and digital evidence
- Applied Criminology — training the next generation of law enforcement professionals
- IT Security — equipping graduates with cybersecurity expertise
The partnership also encompasses the development of advanced laboratory facilities, creation of specialized training curricula, expert exchange visits between Kazakhstan and India, and collaborative research projects in forensic science and legal studies.
Why This Matters for Central Asia
The branch positions Kazakhstan — and Central Asia more broadly — as a growing hub for cutting-edge academic programs in fields that are increasingly critical in the digital age. As cybercrime grows in complexity globally, the demand for forensic science professionals is rising rapidly. Graduates from the Astana branch will be equipped with internationally recognized qualifications, enhancing their career prospects across the region and beyond.
This is yet another signal of Kazakhstan's commitment to diversifying its higher education offerings through international partnerships — making it an increasingly attractive destination for students from across Central Asia and the wider world.
