In a significant step towards enhancing educational collaboration, Kazakhstan and Russia have inaugurated a branch of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University at Dostoevsky Omsk State University. The opening ceremony, held via videoconference, featured Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Strengthening Bilateral Educational Ties

This initiative marks the first Kazakh university branch established in Russia, symbolizing the deepening academic cooperation between the two nations. The branch is set to commence admissions in September 2025, offering bachelor’s and master’s programs in International Law, Kazakh Philology, and Customs. Instruction will be provided in Kazakh, Russian, and English, with plans to introduce dual-degree programs in the future.

Scholarship Opportunities

To support this endeavor, both governments have allocated 200 scholarships, facilitating access to quality education for students from both countries. This move underscores the commitment to fostering academic exchange and mutual understanding. Broader Context of Cooperation

The university branch opening coincided with the 20th Forum of Kazakhstan-Russia Interregional Cooperation, where discussions encompassed trade, investment, and industrial collaboration. President Tokayev highlighted the growing trade turnover, which reached $27 billion, and emphasized the importance of joint projects in various sectors, including energy and logistics.
